Frequently asked questions

What is the Blackmagic Camera app?
Blackmagic Camera is a free professional camera app for iPhone made by Blackmagic Design — the same company behind DaVinci Resolve. It gives you manual control over ISO, shutter, white balance, codec, and supports ProRes and BRAW recording on supported models.
Why does the iPhone 15 Plus need specific settings?
The iPhone 15 Plus uses the A16 chip which has a unique camera system, sensor size, and ISP. Settings optimized for a different iPhone model will underperform on yours — things like ISO range, noise floor, and codec availability differ between chips.
Does this guide work with ProRes?
Yes — the iPhone 15 Plus supports ProRes recording. The guide includes specific codec and bitrate settings for ProRes, BRAW, and H.265.
What are cinematic LUTs?
LUTs (Look-Up Tables) are color grading presets that transform flat or log footage into a finished cinematic look. The guide includes access to a free LUT pack from our Telegram channel and shows how to apply them directly inside Blackmagic Camera as a monitor LUT while shooting.
Is this a one-time purchase?
Yes. You pay $4.99 once and receive a permanent access link by email. No subscription, no account required. The link works on any device, any browser, forever.
